Today we had an exciting excursion! In the morning we went to Windsor Castle. Prince Harry and Meghan Markle were married in St. George’s Chapel there and currently live there! It is also a weekend house for the Queen. This might sound stupid but the castle looked exactly how I would imagine a castle to look. I have been to other palaces in Europe that didn’t look like stereotypical castles so I was surprised how much Windsor resembled my imaginations of castles.
Then we went to Stonehenge, which was my favorite part. I was imagining Stonehenge to be in a mystical clearing in the woods for some reason but it was just in the English countryside. One thing that I learned that I found very interesting is that before Stonehenge was erected, there were 56 holes surrounding the site that would later be Stonehenge. Historians think the holes had pillars in them. I thought this was interesting because it means that the specific site where Stonehenge is today was significant even before Stonehenge was built. I feel really lucky to say I have been to this historical site.
Side note: I have added a page dedicated to pictures which can be found using the menu at the top of my site. I have added pictures from the boat and bus tours and from today.
Tomorrow is my first day of class wish me luck!
What an amazing day. So happy for you and all the other students from around the world that were able to visit the sites.
